On Sunday, September 18, 2022, firefighters from the Village of Mamaroneck, Town of Mamaroneck, City of Rye, Yorktown Heights, and the Westchester County Technical Rescue Team participated in a New York State Surface Water Rescue Technician Class at Harbor Island.

During this class, our firefighters learned how to effectively rescue people from water, and how to maneuver inflatable rescue boats to remove people from flooded buildings. This type of training also allows us to work closely with mutual aid fire departments who have come to help us in the past. For example, last year when Hurricane Ida hit Mamaroneck, the Yorktown Heights’ Water Rescue/Dive Team, along with many other departments, responded to Mamaroneck to aid us in rescuing people trapped in the flooded portions of Mamaroneck.

Our firefighters are prepared and ready to protect the people and property of the Village of Mamaroneck this storm season and in the future.
